2004 Judicial Races
Government for the People

These are is the 2004 recommendations, I will be posting 2006 recommendations in late April, 2006.

Judicial Recommendations:

Office No. 18:  Pat Campbell *

Office No. 29:  Lori Jones *

Office No. 52:  Laura F. Priver ***

Office No. 53:  David Lopez *

Office No. 69:  Judy Levey Meyer ***

Judicial Analysis:  If you think Judges are a non-partisan office, you would be technically correct.  But in reality, as attested to by rulings of the 9th Circuit Court, we have judges trying to write the law from the bench.  A lot of these judges worked their way up through California Courts.  In this election there are four candidates running for office that have all the hallmarks of making law instead of interpreting the laws as written.  These races are L.A. County wide, the smaller jurisdiction Municipal Courts were eliminated to supposedly save money.

Unfortunately, the best candidate in three of the judicial seats did not make it through the primary elections, so we have recommended the better of the two that are left.

*** indicates the best candidate in the Primary Election.

* indicates the better of the two that are left.

In any case, their opponents need to be prevented from being on the bench.  (Note) Ignore Sheriff Lee Baca endorsements; he has endorsed both candidates in three of the races.

Candidate Statements:  Having a candidate statement is a big advantage, but is very expensive.  Good judges are not necessarily good fundraisers.  Two candidates that are not recommended have candidate statements and their opponents do not, which is a huge disadvantage.  Judy Levey Meyer and her opponent both have candidate statements.

Judicial Summary:  Tell your friends, tell your neighbors they need to vote on the Judges recommended above.  Do your best for these recommended candidates to restore sanity into the L.A. Court System.

Office No. 18: Pat Campbell *

Pat has a solid record as a Deputy District Attorney and is rated as Qualified by the Los Angeles County Bar Association.

Opponent:  Mildred Escobedo needs to be opposed.  At the Beach Cities Democrat Club meeting, she stated a reason to vote for her included that she was the only Democrat in this race.  She told the group that she sued her opponent to remove the professor designation from his ballot designation, but neglected to say that he was an adjunct professor.  She also neglected to mention that her own ballot designation was successfully challenged.

There is a whole set of rules for ballot designations. It is our opinion that the failure to state that qualifier to the ballot designation and her rebuff on her ballot designation was unethical.  Unless you hold some kind of office you are limited to three words.  She is supported by the L.A. County Democratic Party and the Beach Cities Democratic Club.  She is also endorsed by all the Democrat L.A. County Board of Supervisor Members that are currently presiding over the demise of L.A. County as we know it.

Office No. 29: Lori Jones *

Lori has succeeded from humble beginnings and is rated as Qualified by the Los Angeles County Bar Association.  She is endorsed by Crime Victims United of California.

"A native Angelino, Lori was born and raised in South Central Los Angeles. She understands the importance of self-reliance, having worked since she was old enough to acquire a worker's permit. After graduating from George Washington High School, she supported herself while earning her undergraduate degree at Loyola Marymount University and through Law School as well. She received her Law Degree in 1987 from The University of the Pacific, Mc George School of Law."

Opponent:  It looks like her opponent may be going to work on his agenda from the bench.  Gus Gomez is the former Mayor of Glendale and current councilmember.  He has close connections and is endorsed by Congressman Adam Schiff.  Gus failed to reply to a questionnaire that asked, "When you immigrated, did you follow legal immigration procedures?  When did you become a citizen of the United States of America and under what circumstances?"   Since he was born in Jalisco, Mexico in 1962 and arrived here in 1974 with his five brothers and three sisters, and having failed to receive an answer, he leaves the highly probable scenario that he illegally immigrated to this country and was granted amnesty during the 1980s.  With illegal immigration being a major concern in California, we would not want Gus Gomez to rule on any of the future cases.  He is endorsed by most of the liberal Democrat Office Holders in L.A. County that are destroying our State.  He is also endorsed by the L.A. County Democratic Party and the Democratic Club of Pasadena Foothills.

Office No. 52: Laura F. Priver ***

Laura is the only Well Qualified candidate in this race as determined by the Los Angeles County Bar Association.  Go to www.laurap4judge.com for other endorsements.

Opponent:  cannot compete with Lauras qualifications.

Office No. 53: David Lopez: *

David is a very qualified candidate that has been both a Deputy Public Defender and a Criminal Prosecutor.  He is supported by a large number of Judges, Law enforcement groups, and Prosecutors.  Go to www.dalopez4judge.com for more information.  David replied to the questionnaire question "Your opponent is considered a gay activist, do you believe this makes him more or less qualified to be a Superior Court Judge?"  His reply was that a judge should not be an activist and should be neutral on the issues.

Opponent:  Daniel Zeke Zeidler ran for State Assembly and was on the Redondo Beach School Board.  He responded to a questionnaire to the Los Angeles Greens on the question" What do you think has been your most controversial decision to date and why?" with "When I was a member of the Redondo Beach School Board, we approved domestic partner benefits as part of the negotiated Teachers Union contract. The audience for that board meeting was standing room only with very vocal opposition."  Schools are struggling with budgets and he spent taxpayer money on same sex partner benefits in opposition to the community.  He is endorsed by almost every liberal Democrat Office Holders in L.A. County that are destroying our State.  He is being endorsed by the ultra liberal Gay and Lesbian Victory Fund, the L.A. County Democratic Party, Democratic Party of San Fernando Valley, and a large number of unions.  We need to prevent activists from getting on the Superior Court Bench.

Office No. 69: Judy Levey Meyer

I have met Judy several times and my wife has also met her.  Before I started "Government for the People", I found her to be very open, personable, and enthusiastic to do a good job as Superior Court Judge.  Judy is rated Well Qualified by the Los Angeles County Bar Association.  In our opinion, she is by far the best qualified of the candidates running for Superior Court Judge.  For a very impressive list of endorsements including Past Governor George Deukmejian, go to http://www.judy4judge.com/endorsements.htm

I posed this question to Judy "Your opponent recently stated that it did not take much to be a Criminal Prosecutor.  Do you agree with this assessment?"  Judys response was in line with our thinking "I take my job very seriously.  I prosecute heinous crimes, often involving prior "strike" convictions.  I deal with victims of rape, child molestation, child abuse, domestic violence, hate crimes, stalking and elder abuse.  In fact, I am part of an elite unit within the District Attorneys Office called, "The Victim Impact Program" (VIP Unit).  Only advanced and accomplished prosecutors are invited to join this unit.  The focus is to give specialized and particularized attention to the victims.  My cases are extremely serious, with life consequences, for both the defendant, and my victims.  I work hard to prepare each case and often take my work home, spending personal time at nights and on weekends preparing for trial.

I feel that a Judicial Officer must appreciate duties of all the personnel who enter the courtroom (Criminal Prosecutors, Public Defenders, clerks, bailiffs, private counsel and everyone who supports the justice system.)  As Judge, you can rely on me to strive for fairness to all parties.     A Judicial Officer should consider all aspects of the law, and appreciate personnel who administer the law."

Opponent:  I was very disappointed by her opponent, Donna Groman.  Donna was prevented from hearing cases in Inglewood by the D.A.s Office.  When I posed the question of being run out of Inglewood, her response was that "The D.A. was a Republican".  This is a completely unsatisfactory answer and she failed to respond to a questionnaire to elaborate on the issue.  I found latter that the D.A.s office tried its best to deal with the issues before being forced to Not Stipulate for any case that she was assigned, thus preventing her from hearing any cases.  Donna is endorsed by almost every liberal Democrat Office Holders in L.A. County that are destroying our State.  She is being endorsed by the ultra liberal Gay and Lesbian Victory Fund, the L.A. County Democratic Party, Beach Cities Democratic Club, and a large number of unions.  We need to prevent activists from getting on the Superior Court Bench.
